Got any tips on finding a good domain name?

Make it easy to remember. This is why many businesses get domains with their business names in them. Some people even choose their business name after they have a domain they like.

Shorter is usually better because they’re easier for customers to remember. It’s also easier to get matching usernames for Facebook, Twitter and any other social media accounts you have.

Get more than one. As traffic to your website increases, you may attract the attention of copycats who’ll snatch up similar domain names in the hopes of drawing traffic away from you. Register similar or misspelled domains early so this won’t be an issue later.

What is the price of a standard .ART domain?

Pricing for a typical one-year registration fee is $18,99. Annual renewal fees are priced the same.

Why the domain appears as ‘unavailable’ in search?

  • It might have been registered by someone else.
  • If the domain is unregistered, .ART might have reserved this domain for appropriate use at a later date.

How do I renew my domain?

To manually renew your domain name, log in to your account, click on the Renew button next to the domain name you wish to renew. The next few steps ask you to confirm the renewal and process payment for that item.

What happens if I don’t renew my domain?

Within 3-14 days after the domain name expires, the domain name will be removed from the name servers (DNS) which will interrupt any services such as Email, Website hosting, or URL Forwarding.

What happens to my search ranking on Google if I switch my website to .ART?

Recent publications indicate that there are Google Search advantages to domains where the first and second-level names are sematically linked, such as impressionist.art. Can I buy the artists’ firstnamelastname.art domains?

The .ART domain registration policies are clear in that registrants must not violate third-party rights when registering a domain. It is up to you to manage this commercial relationship between you and your related parties.

I have a trademark for John. Do I have priority over others in registering John.art domain?

In General Availability, domains are now registered on a first-come-first served basis. Therefore, having a trademark does not give priority on the registration. If another party has registered your trademarked name, you might have remedies at your disposal.

If my trademark is registered by someone else. What are the remedies I can seek?

In addition to traditional legal remedies, ICANN, the Internet Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers, has created two dispute resolution processes which can be used to address possible trademark infringements:

How do I know that I’m not infringing somebody’s trademark when I’m registering a name?

.ART domain registry policies are clear in that a domain name may not be registered or used to infringe another person’s trademark. Infringement generally occurs when a party registers another’s trademark and takes some action such as holding themselves out to be in the business of the trademark holder or trying to sell the name to the trademark holder at an inflated price.

Premium names are of value for artistic community and therefore can be uniquely priced. The retail price for premium names ranges from $70 – 15000. Examples of premium domain names: modern.art, fine.art, gallery.art, beauty.art.

Privacy protection

Private domain registration option hides WHOIS information, e.g. owner’s name, address, phone number, thus protecting sensitive data.

Registrant

An Applicant that has submitted a Registration Request that has been paid for in full and accepted by the Registry. A Registrant is the holder of a registered name in the Top-Level Domain Registry.

Registry

The entity that is operating a top-level domain registry (such as .ART).

Reserved domain name

Domain Names that the Registry has reserved from Registration and may, at its sole discretion, later release for Registration or Allocation.

Standard domain name

Any word or word combination apart from 3.5 mln premium domain names. Example of a standard domain name: johnsmith.art.

TLD

A Top-Level Domain Registry (e.g .ART).
